Petrotrin yesterday startee clean-up efforts in the adjacent Marabella locations affected by the recent upset condition of the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) plant at its Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.
In a release, the company said it has been providing ongoing relief through the following initiatives:
- Conducting continued assessments of premises impacted
- Clean–up activities at affected homes and vehicles
- Advising residents about the Company hotline for affected persons requiring information and assistance.
"Based on investigations, Petrotrin has ascertained that the impact of the plant upset condition has been confined to the Marabella area west of the Southern Main Road," the company said.
On Saturday, residents from Maraballa complained of coughing and nausea after a thick white powder covered their cars and hosues.
Petrotrin confirmed the powdery emission was from the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit which had a pungent odour.
Petrotrin said its Emergency Hotline 658-SAFE (658-7233) will continue to remain open to facilitate concerns, questions and queries from residents.
